NOVEMBER OFFERINGS
We have some beautiful, healthy stock available & not only are these plants gorgeous, they’re ready to thrive in your gardens.
1. AGAPANTHUS
We’re stocked with a vibrant range:
Blackjack, Buccaneer, Blue Velvet, Emerald Ice, Double Diamond, & Great White.
Tips:
Agapanthus thrive in well- drained soil & look spectacular when planted in clusters or as borders. Deadhead spent flowers for repeat flowering.
Fun Facts:
- Agapanthus is native to South Africa.
- Name means “flower of love.”
- Their long-lasting flowers attract butterflies & bees, adding life to any garden.
2. ROSES
Few plants say “classic garden” like a rose, & this month our selection is in full splendour! Choose from elegant Iceberg standards or colourful shrub roses that fill beds & borders with fragrance & charm.
Tips:
Prune lightly after flowering, feed with a rose-specific fertiliser, & keep an eye out for early aphids, prevention is key.
Fun Facts:
A single rose bush can live for over 30 years with proper pruning & care!
The Iceberg Rose was bred in Germany in 1958 & is one of the most popular roses worldwide for its reliability & constant flowers.
Shrub roses are known for hardiness & repeat flowering, making them perfect for easy- care gardening.
3.BOUGAINVILLEA ‘DONYA’
We’ve got stock in 20L, mature stock in 50L & 70L sizes. This means you can choose the scale that fits your space.
Tips:
Plant in full sun, ensure good drainage, feed lightly after flowering. In our Cape climate they’ll reward you beautifully.
Fun Facts:
Drought-tolerant & resilient, they’re often called “the plant that loves to be ignored.”
Named after French explorer Louis Antoine de Bougainvillea, who discovered the plant in Brazil.
EXCITING NEWS
It is with great excitement that we share some exciting news with you. On the 20th of October, we proudly welcomed over 170 delegates from across the globe as part of the IGCA (International Garden Centre Association) 2025 Congress Tour. South Africa played host, with Cape Town our beloved Mother City shining as a horticultural hub for the world to see.
Ferndale was honoured to be hand- picked as a highlight stop in the region to be visited, a testament to our nearly 85 years of horticultural heritage. We’ve grown from humble beginnings into a thriving green destination loved by generations of plant enthusiasts locally & internationally.
During the IGCA visit, guests explored our vibrant displays, shared knowledge on garden centre management, & connected over their shared passion for plants. It was a day filled with colour, conversation, & inspiration, proving once again that gardening is truly a universal language.
We’re so proud to have showcased our nursery on such a global stage, & this visit reaffirms our commitment to excellence, innovation & community in gardening.
